Description	6-Acetamido-6-deoxycastanospermine is a fatty acid that is the precursor to castanospermine. Castanospermine is an antimicrobial agent that is effective against bacteria and fungi. This compound has been shown to have clinical relevance in infectious diseases, including malaria, and as an anticancer agent. It has also been shown to have some activity against tetracycline-resistant bacteria. 6-Acetamido-6-deoxycastanospermine can be synthesized from 6-acetamidohexanoic acid and glucose in the presence of glutathione reductase and cytochrome P450 enzymes. This reaction results in the formation of 6-acetamido-6-deoxyglucose, which then undergoes oxidative deamination by esterases or glucuronidases to form 6-acetamido-6deoxycastanospermine.
