Description | Bulbocapnine is a fatty acid that is found in the seeds of plants from the genus Lecythis. It has been shown to increase the rate of absorption of hydrochloric acid by fatty acids, which can be used as a model system. Bulbocapnine prevents dopamine from being broken down by inhibiting an enzyme called monoamine oxidase. This drug is also used to treat autoimmune diseases and cervical cancer. Bulbocapnine binds to the trigeminal nerve and blocks the release of neurotransmitters, which leads to relief of pain in some patients with trigeminal neuralgia. Bulbocapnine also inhibits prolactin secretion by blocking dopamine receptors in the pituitary gland, leading to increased serum prolactin levels. |
