Description Bulbocapnine hydrochloride is a molecule that acts as an inhibitor of dopamine. It is used to study the effects of dopamine on blood pressure and other physiological functions. Bulbocapnine hydrochloride inhibits the action of dopamine in the brain by interfering with the synthesis, storage, and release of dopamine. In rats, bulbocapnine hydrochloride blocks the ability of nerve cells to respond to stimulation from ca2+ channels, which causes a decrease in the concentration of ca2+. Bulbocapnine hydrochloride also has inhibitory properties against rostral serotonin neurons and may be used to study diseases such as Parkinson's disease and depression. Bulbocapnine hydrochloride also blocks chloride efflux pumps, which are proteins that move chloride ions into cells in order to maintain low levels of chloride inside cells. Bulbocapnine hydrochloride is a non-competitive inhibitor because it does not bind directly to the enzyme but rather binds to another molecule
