Description | Corynanthine is a quinazoline compound that is used as a radioprotectant to prevent damage to the heart, lungs, and other tissues when high doses of radiation are given. Corynanthine has been shown to bind to the 2-adrenergic receptor in human serum and inhibit the production of serum prolactin levels. It also has an antagonistic effect on the neurokinin-1 receptor, which inhibits dopamine release from nerve terminals. This drug shows no toxicity in animals at doses up to 10 times the maximum human dose. |
