Structure
Description Dihydroberberine is a natural compound that has been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Dihydroberberine inhibits the expression of growth factor-β1, which is important for the inflammatory response in atherosclerotic lesions. Dihydroberberine also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species and protects against oxidative injury. This drug has been shown to be effective against hepatic steatosis, a condition caused by an accumulation of fat in liver cells due to a high intake of fatty foods and/or alcohol. Dihydroberberine also has antimicrobial properties, inhibiting bacterial growth by targeting ribosomes. Dihydroberberine binds to the ribosome at a site distinct from other antibiotics and prevents protein synthesis. The molecular docking analysis shows that dihydroberberine binds to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes with an affinity similar to that observed for erythromycin
