Description | Geneserin is a 5-HT agonist that binds to the 5-HT receptor and stimulates the production of acetylcholine. It has been shown to be effective in treating symptoms of Alzheimer's disease by inhibiting the activity of acetylcholinesterase. Geneserin also has been shown to have a therapeutic effect on patients with Parkinson's disease and depression, although it is not yet approved for use in these conditions. Geneserin has a number of analogs, including methysergide, which is used as an anti-migraine drug. Methysergide was synthesized by adding an N-oxide group to genaserin, which increased its potency and duration of action. The synthesis of methysergide can be achieved through an asymmetric synthesis reaction that involves a chiral catalyst. |
