Description | Graveoline is a natural compound that belongs to the group of surfactants. It inhibits acetylcholinesterase, which leads to an accumulation of acetylcholine at the synapses of the central nervous system. Graveoline also has antimicrobial properties and is used in eye drops for the treatment of eye disorders such as dry eye and allergic conjunctivitis. The surfactant can be extracted from plants such as acridone, anthranilic acid and acridone. These compounds inhibit bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. This active form is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase or conjugation with glucuronic acid. Graveoline also specifically binds to markers expressed at high levels in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains (e.g., ES |
