Structure
Description Isocorydine is a bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid that has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on murine hepatoma cells. Isocorydine binds to the protopine site of the enzyme papillary muscle, inhibiting DNA synthesis and cell division. It also inhibits the growth of human carcinoma cells (HL-60) by binding to their DNA and inhibiting RNA synthesis. Isocorydine has been shown to inhibit the production of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory properties.
