Description (+)-Magnoflorine iodide is a compound that inhibits matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity. It has been shown to inhibit MMP-2 and MMP-9 at different concentrations, with the IC50 values being 0.5 to 1 μM and 3 to 5 μM, respectively. These results suggest that (+)-Magnoflorine iodide may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of diseases associated with MMPs. The chemical reactions of (+)-Magnoflorine iodide are related to its acidic nature. It undergoes a number of reactions including hydrolysis, oxidation, reduction, and chlorination. Chromatographic analysis has revealed that (+)-Magnoflorine iodide is composed of protopine, cryptopine, dictamnine, and chloride ions. Chelerythrine chloride is a metabolite of this compound which can be detected in urine after oral administration.
