Description | Matrine is an alkaloid found in plants of the Sophora genus. The compound is an antioxidant with anti-tumoral properties and has neuroprotective effects in rodent models for Parkinson's disease. It inhibits inflammatory responses and was shown to attenuates collagen-induced arthritis in mice. Moreover, matrine can attenuate cardiac fibrosis and hepatitis B-induced liver damage. The compound can also agonise opioid receptors and has anti-nociceptive properties. |
