Description	Melycaconitine citrate is a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist that inhibits the binding of nicotine to α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, leading to a decrease in locomotor activity and oxidative injury. Melycaconitine citrate also has been shown to inhibit transcriptional regulation by binding to DNA. Melycaconitine citrate has been used as an antimicrobial agent against bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica. It inhibits the expression of genes for bacterial dna binding activity, which leads to a decreased production of proteins necessary for bacterial growth. This drug is also used for bowel disease treatment by inhibiting the production of inflammatory prostaglandins.
