Description	O-Desmethyl galanthamine is a cholinergic agent that binds to acetylcholinesterase and inhibits it from breaking down acetylcholine. This drug has been shown to have neuroprotective properties, which are most likely due to its ability to increase the level of acetylcholine in the brain. O-Desmethyl galanthamine has also been shown to be effective in clinical trials for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It was found that O-desmethyl galanthamine increased the level of acetylcholine in patients with Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease. The molecular modeling study revealed that this drug has a hydroxyl group, which may explain its biological properties. O-Desmethyl galanthamine is a compound containing benzyl groups and an acetylcholine ester.
