Description | (R,S)-Nornicotine is a tobacco alkaloid that is produced by the plant as a nicotine replacement. It has been shown to have insecticidal properties and may be useful for the control of chewing insects such as aphids and lygus bugs. (R,S)-Nornicotine is a metabolite of nicotine that inhibits neuronal death in rats and mice. The enzyme activities of nicotinase, catechol-O-methyltransferase, and acetylcholinesterase were inhibited by (R,S)-nornicotine in vitro. The (R,S)-nornicotine binds to DNA at the dinucleotide phosphate level with hydrogen bonding interactions. |
