Description | Scoulerine is a natural compound that is found in plants like the Chinese herb Coptis chinensis. It has been shown to have cox-2 inhibitory and anti-inflammatory effects, as well as being a potential chemotherapeutic agent. Scoulerine inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), which is responsible for inflammation and pain, by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Scoulerine also has anti-cancer properties and can be used to treat infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and leishmaniasis. The extract of Coptis chinensis was shown to inhibit the growth of protopine-resistant cells in vitro. |
