CAS Number 19121-58-5
Description Solasonine is a cytotoxic glycoalkaloid found in plants of the genus Solanum. This steroidal glucoside has anti-proliferative activity and can trigger apoptosis. In breast cancer cell lines, it activates the mitochondrial cytochrome c-mediated pathway. In a liver cancer in vitro model, solasonine inhibits interactions between mortalin, a Hsp70 chaperone, and tumor suppressor p53, allowing p53 to activate the cell death pathway.
