CAS Number | 548-90-3 |
Description | Trichodesmine is an n-oxide that is a major metabolite of the neurotoxin trichothecene. It has been shown to have toxic effects in tissue culture, including neuronal death and cell membrane damage. Trichodesmine can react with p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA) to form reactive intermediates that may be responsible for its carcinogenic potential. This compound also inhibits glutamate pyruvate transaminase and causes liver lesions in rats. Trichodesmine can also inhibit the enzyme matrix effect, which is involved in the breakdown of protein in the liver cells. Analysis of this compound has not been established, but it has been detected using HPLC and GC/MS techniques. The molecular weight of trichodesmine is 292.3 g/mol. |
