Structure
Description Calystegine B4 is a chaperone protein that protects other proteins from degradation. It has been found in many plant families and is usually produced as an inactive precursor that needs to be activated by light exposure. Calystegine B4 has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity in an experimental model. The active form of calystegine B4 can be synthesized by the asymmetric synthesis of a hydroxyl group. This process involves the use of a nitrogen atom, which is bonded with two hydroxyl groups on one side and two methyl groups on the other. When this molecule is irradiated with light, it becomes active and can be used for sample preparation for immunoassays or other experiments.
