Structure
Description DL-Tetrahydropalmatine is a plant alkaloid that has a wide range of pharmacological activities. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the release of proinflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide, which is mediated by the activation of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). Tetrahydropalmatine also has an anti-inflammatory effect on the kidneys by inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species and TNF-α. In addition, tetrahydropalmatine has a relaxant effect on smooth muscle cells and acts as an analgesic through its inhibition of NMDA receptors. This compound is also found in glycol ethers, which are used as solvents in paint removers.
