Structure
Description Protoveratrine is an alkaloid that is found in the seeds of the red kidney bean. It has been shown to have a wide range of biological properties and can be used as an experimental model for congestive heart failure. Protoveratrine has also been shown to inhibit sodium citrate-induced hypernatremia and lc-ms/ms method, which is an analytical method for the quantification of human serum proteins. This compound also inhibits the expression of protein genes involved in energy metabolism, such as ATP synthase and pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4. Protoveratrine has been shown to be effective against autoimmune diseases, such as lupus erythematosus, which are caused by autoantibodies that attack the body's own cells.
